site.btaPolitical Consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Bulgaria and Azerbaijan Held in Baku

Political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Azerbaijan were held on June 30 in Baku. The Bulgarian delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elena Shekerletova, and the hosts were led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Fariz Rzayev. This was announced on Monday by the press centre of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.

Shekerletova was received by and held meetings with the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Mr. Jeyhun Bayramov and the Azerbaijani Presidential Adviser on Foreign Affairs Mr. Hikmet Hajiyev.

The political consultations and meetings confirmed the positive dynamics in the bilateral political dialogue, which has been elevated to the level of a strategic partnership. The current state of bilateral political relations as well as trade and economic relations, energy, transport and logistics, tourism, culture, education and multilateral cooperation were reviewed. Common strategic interests for cooperation in energy, transport and digital connectivity were identified.

The two sides exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest, including regional and international security, the situation in the context of ongoing Russian military aggression in Ukraine and the escalation of tensions between Israel and Iran, and their regional and global implications. The Bulgarian delegates expressed gratitude for the support in the process of evacuation of the staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Tehran, as well as the possibility for it to continue operating from the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
