Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov convened a meeting of the national coordination mechanism to oversee the monitoring and control processes related to the country’s upcoming adoption of the euro, the government said in a press release on Monday.
During the session, reports from the relevant institutions on the progress of preparations for adopting the euro were presented. The implementation of the Action Plan to address identified issues and challenges in the process of introducing the single European currency was also discussed.
The meeting also focused on mechanisms to enhance coordination and communication between the competent institutions. A review of the current legislative framework on the topic was conducted, along with a discussion on the need for possible amendments.
In the second half of 2025, the intensive phase of the public information campaign for the euro introduction in Bulgaria is set to roll out. Over 100 events are being prepared to take place across the country, with the participation of government representatives and the relevant institutions. Citizens and businesses will be provided with comprehensive information about the transition to the single European currency. In parallel, an active dialogue with local authorities on the topic is already underway.
The meeting also discussed the actions and measures undertaken by the Ministry of Interior and the State Agency for National Security (SANS) to counter financial crimes, prevent cyberattacks, raise public awareness, and combat potential abuses, the press release further said.
