site.btaPM Zhelyazkov Says European Council Has Endorsed EC Proposal for Bulgaria to Adopt Euro on Jan. 1, 2026, Expresses Gratitude for Support


The European Council has endorsed the European Commission's proposal that Bulgaria adopt the euro on January 1, 2026, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov wrote on X. He noted that Bulgaria had been congratulated for its efforts and thanked for the support.
Zhelyazkov added that the Council had welcomed Bulgaria's fulfilment of all the criteria for joining the euro area.
The European Council has invited the Council of the European Union to swiftly adopt the relevant proposals of the European Commission, according to the European Council conclusions adopted in Brussels on Thursday evening.
At Thursday’s meeting, which was attended by Zhelyazkov, the European Council adopted conclusions on Ukraine, the Middle East, European defence and security, EU in the world, competitiveness, migration, the Republic of Moldova, Western Balkans, internal security, preparedness, hybrid activities, and other items.
