Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov will represent Bulgaria at the Global Transport Connectivity Forum in Istanbul, the Transport Ministry's press service said here Wednesday.

The event, held under the patronage of President of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will take place from June 27 to 29.

On the first day of the forum, Karadjov will participate in the panel on Strategic Connectivity for a Resilient Europe, where he will present Bulgaria's plans to ensure better road and rail connectivity between the countries of the region.

During his visit to Turkiye, Grozdan Karadjov will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Turkiye, Spain, Albania, Montenegro, Egypt, Uzbekistan and the Republic of North Macedonia.

Rail transport will become the backbone of public transport, Karadjov said earlier in June. He assured that the development of the railway network is a strategic priority and rail transport in Bulgaria could become an attractive alternative to road transport.

Introducing competition in passenger rail transport will lead to better service and lower prices, Karadjov said about the upcoming tender procedure for passenger rail services. He added that Bulgaria is working on a law on public transport and accelerating the modernization of the railway infrastructure through EU funds and concession contracts.
