The Eurogroup will be discussing Thursday, June 19, the readiness of Bulgaria to join the eurozone, according to the meeting's agenda. The Ministers will welcome Bulgarian Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova and Central Bank Governor Dimitar Radev, and will hear the Commission and the European Central Bank (ECB) on their convergence assessments for Bulgaria.

Bulgaria hopes to adopt the euro on January 1, 2026, following positive convergence reports by the ECB and the EC on June 4.

The Eurogroup will also discuss and endorse a draft recommendation by euro area member states to the Council on Bulgaria’s adoption of the euro.

The matter will also be on the agenda of a meeting of the EU finance ministers. The Council is expected to approve the recommendation of the Eurogroup and a a letter to the European Council.

At the end of next week, the European Council is expected to take a stance on the matter, followed by a position by the European Parliament on July 8 and finally an approval by the Council of the EU of the rest of the requisite legal acts, whereby the procedure will be finalized.
