Azerbaijan is a key partner of Bulgaria in the field of energy, said National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova during a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the Parliament’s press centre reported on Wednesday.
The Bulgarian parliamentary delegation, led by Kiselova, is participating in the 65th Plenary Session of Parliamentary Assembly of Black Sea Economic Co-operation (PABSEC) in Baku.
Kiselova highlighted the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan from 2015 as reflecting the mutual interest and desire to strengthen bilateral relations, which continue to expand. The 2024 Declaration on Strengthening Partnership broadens cooperation to priority areas such as energy and connectivity and supports progress in other sectors, shy added.
Parliament Chair emphasized Azerbaijan’s significant contribution to diversifying natural gas supplies for Bulgaria’s economy and Europe as a whole. She also noted Azerbaijan’s role as a strategic energy partner of the EU. “In this regard, cooperation in the energy sector is crucial not only for bilateral relations but also for regional and European efforts to enhance energy security through diversification, especially given the drastically changed geopolitical environment and European security architecture,” she added.
She further pointed out that conflicts in the North and South make Azerbaijan a natural source of stability in the region.
