Kiril Petkov, co-leader of Continue the Change, complained that for yet another week the majority in Parliament refuses to add on the legislature's agenda the rules of procedure of the anti-corruption commission. Petkov was speaking to reporters Wednesday in the corridors of Parliament.
He went on to personally slam GERB leader Boyko Borissov and MRF - New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski, saying that "the tandem of the two wants to manipulate the rules so as to make sure Anton Slavchev takes the helm" of the anti-corruption commission.
He also said, "They want to renegotiate the rules but the European Commission people I spoke to last week said they would not allow that, would not allow undermining the European rules for the anti-corruption commission in a way that would allow Boyko [Borissov] and [Delyan] Peevski directly put Anton Slavchev at the helm."
He also said that the second payment under the Recovery and Resilience Plan is totally dependent on the reform and the adoption of rules for the anti-corruption commission. "The third payment is tied up to the very appointment of the chiefs of the anti-corruption commission," he added.
"As far as I know, the European Commission clearly told them last week, in informal conversations, that this [appointment of Anton Slavchev] is not going to work," said Petkov.
It also transpired from his remarks that the leadership of Continue the Change is meeting on July 12 to discuss a possible no-confidence vote against the government.
