For six days residents of four villages in Sandanski Municipality (Southwest Bulgaria) have been left without electricity, Laskarevo Mayor Georgi Mitalov told the Bulgarian News Agency on Friday. He added that the four villages of Laskarevo, Radarevo, Lyubovka and Gorna Sushitsa are supplied with electricity from the same line. The Mayor said that the electricity stops at 8:30 a.m. and comes back on at 4:30 p.m.
He informed of cases of burnt electrical appliances, including refrigerators and others. "Refrigerators, everything is going bad. My wife has a commercial establishment. One generator burnt out. I bought a second one for BGN 5,000," said Mitalov.
Farmers have also fallen victims to the lack of electricity. They cannot turn on the pumps for watering and their produce has spoiled, the Mayor explained.
Mitalov said that during the day the temperature in Laskarevo reaches 38C.
He had reported the problem to the power company when the power was first shut off on June 5. The information he received was that the shutdown was planned. The company's official website also has information about a planned power outage in the four villages. More than 300 people live in them.
