The big conversation about what awaits Bulgarians after the adoption of the euro has not taken place to this day, Vice President Iliana Iotova commented on Friday. "It seems as if the political pariahs and especially the responsible institutions in this process are afraid to take public positions, lest they be reminded at some point later," she added.

According to her, nine months after the adoption of the law on the euro's introduction in Bulgaria, the Executive and the responsible institutions have not informed the citizens in a timely manner about the process of introducing the euro, about all the risks and opportunities that the common currency gives. She asked why and who is afraid to answer the numerous questions asked by citizens. In fact, the only ongoing campaign is being conducted by the media, she noted.

A campaign is being conducted against President Rumen Radev and his proposal for a referendum on the euro's introduction in Bulgaria, she told reporters, adding that both permitted and unauthorised means are being used in that campaign.

Iotova was approached by journalists in the resort of Mineralni Bani near Haskovo, where she attended the opening of the International Children's Ethno Festival.
