Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov calls on the President to convene the Consultative Council on National Security, the party's press centre reported Monday. In Kostadinov's words, the head of State has made two important steps to protect democracy in Bulgaria, and convening the Council would be the third step.
According to Kostadinov, the first step was President Rumen Radev's proposal for a referendum on the adoption of the euro in Bulgaria. The second step was the President's decision to petition the Constitutional Court against National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova’s decision to bar as inadmissible his referendum proposal.
In Kostadinov's words, Bulgarian national security is endangered by "the creeping unconstitutional coup, carried out by the ruling GERB and MRF - New Beginning of [Delyan] Peevski, together with their crutches BSP and There Is Such a People," and it is right for the head of State to convene the Consultative Council on National Security. The introduction of a foreign currency in the country against the will of the Bulgarian people is practically a coup d'état, Kostadinov believes, who plans to send a letter to the presidential institution later on Monday with a proposal to convene the Council. "I believe we are long overdue for this action as well, but better late than never," he said, as quoted by Vazrazhdane's press centre.
He recalled a national protest in defence of the Bulgarian lev is scheduled for May 31 in Sofia.
