The Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office has initiated pre-trial proceedings against officials from the polling stations’ Section Election Commissions and Regional Election Commissions in Stara Zagora, Kardzhali, Blagoevgrad and Sofia in the general elections on October 27, 2024, who have violated and failed to perform their official duties in order to gain benefits for or cause harm to others, which might have caused significant harmful consequences to others, in the period 2024-2025, the prosecution service said in a statement on Monday.

The pre-trial proceedings were initiated on April 30, 2025, after Information Services JSC officials and the president of the Constitutional Court alerted the prosecution, and a preliminary investigation was carried out.

The prosecutor’s office denied claims that constitutional judges are under investigation and added that judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria have never been subject to examination, let alone investigation, as some media have falsely suggested.

In early March, the Constitutional Court declared the election of 16 MPs unlawful. Following the court's decision, the Central Election Commission redistributed the seats in Parliament and MPs from the Velichie party entered the legislature.
