site.btaPatriarch Daniil Proclaims Resurrection of Christ, Blesses Bulgarian People
Minutes after midnight on Great Saturday, Bulgarian Patriarch and Metropolitan of Sofia Daniil proclaimed the resurrection of Christ and blessed the Bulgarian people.
His Holiness also delivered the Gospel reading from Matthew 28, account about the Resurrection.
“Christ is risen!”, Patriarch Daniil proclaimed thrice before the people gathered in front of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, followed by the response "Indeed He is Risen!"
Vice President Iliana Iotova, BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, head of the Protocol Department at the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, as well as members of the cathedral’s parish council were among those in attendance.
After celebrating the liturgy of St John Chrysostom and proclaiming the Resurrection of Christ, Patriarch Daniil read his Paschal Message to clerics and laity.
"The news of the Resurrection of the Son of God is joy to the human heart. Our testimony of the Victor over death, our crucified and risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, is a testimony of joy, of faith and hope. And so our sermon on Christ's Resurrection is a sermon on the triumph of life - of the victory that has been sustained, for our sake, by our God and Creator who is Life itself and the only Source of life. Who out of love created the world and man, and who - again in the manifestation of His infinite love - also became our Savior from sin, corruption, and death (Jn 3:16; 10:10). On the Day of Resurrection we glorify the victory of Life," the Paschal Message said further.
"May the joy of the news of Christ's Resurrection be with us always - as the Savior Himself calls us in the holy Gospel (Mt 28:9) and as His apostles repeatedly urge us," the message said, adding greetings and blessings of love to all Bulgarians, both at home and abroad, wishing them peace and joy.
