Contemporary technological, economic and social aspects of defence and security, and the need for targeted investments in information and logistics connectivity were among the topics discussed by Bulgarian President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Rumen Radev with NATO Supreme Allied Commander Transformation General Philippe Lavigne, who is paying an official visit to Bulgaria, the head of state's press service said on Thursday.

Common was the position that the most significant element in the defence and security system are the people and along with increasing investments in modern technologies in the defence sector, it is crucial to focus efforts on attracting and motivating young people in the sector, because in this respect there is an outflow not only in Bulgaria. Radev highlighted the importance of joint exercises for the acquisition of real defence capabilities, the conditions for which are created by the NATO Multinational Battle Group in Bulgaria.

Achieving effective cooperation between NATO's procedures and the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy is key to increasing the defence capabilities of member states, was another the position expressed during the meeting. The discussion highlighted the need for better coordination between the investments that the EU, NATO and individual countries are making in building defence capabilities and ensuring their security in order to maximise the impact of defence spending.
