President Rumen Radev's position is entirely subject to the interest of Bulgaria and the Bulgarian citizens, Vice President Iliana Iotova told journalists on Tuesday.She participated in the opening of the 60th summer seminar on Bulgarian Language and Culture for Foreign Students in Bulgarian and Slavic Studies. Over 80 students and lecturers from 23 countries from Europe and Asia will participate in the seminar.
Regarding the annual report of the Military Intelligence Service, which states that attempts have been made by North Macedonia to influence Bulgarian minorities in neighbouring countries to identify themselves as "Macedonian", Iotova said she would not comment because it would not be fair to do so outside the context of the report. She shared her personal experience from her visits and contacts with Bulgarian communities in various Balkan countries. Iotova said that there is such pressure in Kosovo and Albania. On her last visit to Kosovo she said she saw it with her own eyes and it happened even during her visit.
Iotova also commented on the provision of cluster munitions to Ukraine. According to her, it is worrying that Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov was perhaps one of the few leaders at the NATO summit who supported their use. Since 2008 Bulgaria has been part of the agreement against their use. Many countries, including Germany, Spain, the UK and many human rights organisations, have spoken out against them, she added.
