Tourism Minister Zaritsa Dinkova Wednesday met with Indonesia's Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, who is visiting Bulgaria, the Ministry said. The two discussed ways to expand cooperation and the exchange of tourism industry staff.

Indonesian Ambassador Iwan Bogananta attended the meeting.

Uno said the day of the first meeting between the two ministries was a historic day. The best way to start this relationship in tourism is with a culinary experience, he said, adding that Bulgaria would be Indonesia's culinary hub for Europe. He visited a factory making Indonesian food near Plovdiv (South Central Bulgaria).

Dinkova suggested that Indonesian cooks visit her country.

Bulgaria is laying the foundations for sustainable development of year-round tourism and offers very competitive conditions for investment, Dinkova said. This country offers one of the best value-for-money tourism products compared to most countries of the region. That is why it is attracting a growing number of tourists, even from far away destinations like Indonesia. In 2022, nearly 4,000 Indonesians visited Bulgaria, Sofia being the preferred destination.

The two ministers agreed that reciprocity is of the utmost importance in tourism and there are many untapped opportunities on which to build bilateral relations.
