The Annual Meeting of the International Council of Direction of the International Federation of Thanatologists Associations (FIAT-IFTA Annual Meeting) will be held in Bulgaria for the first time, the country's Union of Funeral Companies (UFC) President Atanas Argirov told BTA on Tuesday. The event will take place at the Golden Sands summer resort near the Black Sea city of Varna between June 7 and 9.
The meeting will mark the 30th anniversary of UFC's establishment. About 200 guests from around the world are expected to attend the forum.
The 52nd FIAT-IFTA Annual Meeting will focus on intangible cultural heritage, Argirov said. He noted that each culture has its own burial tradition and rites. Knowledge about these practices allows archaeologists and historians to study the lifestyles of ancient communities and describe them to the contemporary audience.
Argirov added that the meeting will provide an opportunity for the participants to share experience and discuss the latest developments in the death care industry.
