Pernik Mayor Stanislav Vladimirov met on Tuesday here with his counterpart from the Italian town of Narni, Lorenzo Lucarelli, and representatives of schools and universities from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Romania and Bulgaria, Pernik Town Hall reported.

During the visit, cooperation between the two cities in the fields of culture and tourism, as well as in future activities in projects related to education and STEM disciplines was discussed.

Vladimirov briefed the guests on the cultural and economic profile of Pernik, its millennial history and development prospects.

"In the recent past our city was the economic heart of Bulgaria. In recent years, it is developing again at a good pace and my team and I are ambitious to revive the municipality's economy," Pernik's Mayor said. He noted that the coal regions transformation programme is one of the mechanisms through which this can be achieved. "Our main goal is to make Pernik the best city to live in Bulgaria and for it to be seen in a different light - as a city of developed culture, traditions, economy," Vladimirov said.

The Mayor of Narni said that the delegation from different countries will stay for several days in Pernik in connection with the implementation of a project under the Erasmus + programme, related to the development of STEM disciplines in schools, in which the Simeon Radev High School for Foreign Languages in Pernik is a partner.

"Pernik is a city with a rich and ancient history, as well as an important industrial centre, as is Narni. We also have a big festival here, but it is incomparable to the scale of your Surva," Lucarelli said.
