The Yes, Bulgaria political party proposed in a video published on Facebook on Wednesday that Bulgaria, together with Romania, request consultations under Article 4 of the NATO Treaty. The party's co-chair Ivaylo Mirchev specified that this does not mean military intervention, but Bulgaria and Romania consulting with the Alliance countries in order to guarantee the security of Bulgarian citizens.

Article 4 of The North Atlantic Treaty states: "the Parties will consult together whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the Parties is threatened".

Earlier on Wednesday, NATO air and missile defence systems stationed in the eastern Mediterranean destroyed a ballistic missile fired from Iran as it entered Turkish airspace after passing over Syria and Iraq, the Turkish Defence Ministry wrote on its official social media account on X. According to Mirchev, this is a change in the situation, and a very serious one, which means that the Bulgarian side cannot stand by and measures must be taken, which must be done quickly.

Bozhidar Bozhanov, co-chair of "Yes, Bulgaria." said that national security meetings should be used to provide detailed, uniform information to all political parties in order to stop speculation, fear-mongering, and conspiracy theories.

On Wednesday, Caretaker Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov stated that the events of this morning fundamentally change the assessment of the US and Israeli military operation against Iran. He proposed to the caretaker Prime Minister Gurov to urgently convene a Security Council based on these assessments and to make the relevant state decisions and to notify the relevant state bodies.
