148 years ago, Bulgaria returned to the map of Europe, the Velichie party wrote in a social media post marking Bulgaria’s National Day. “Today we mark the most significant day in Bulgarian history,” they added.

“Just as Shipka Peak has become a symbol of eternal reverence for the feat of the heroes, so too does this bright date remind us of the unbreakable strength of spirit and the striving for freedom of our people,” Velichie said.

“Homage to those who fell for the freedom of the Fatherland,” the post also reads.

Bulgaria marks the 148th anniversary of its Liberation on Tuesday, with events dedicated to the national holiday taking place across the country.
