Parliament is expected to vote on the resignation of the Zhelyazkov Cabinet as the first item on Friday’s agenda.
The resignation has been submitted and is listed as the top item in Friday’s parliamentary agenda, GERB leader Boyko Borissov said on Thursday in a Facebook livestream from the party headquarters. He added that no restructuring of the cabinet is envisaged.
Earlier on Thursday, before MPs voted on the sixth motion of no confidence against the government over its economic policy Prime Minister Zhelyazkov announced at a briefing in Parliament that he was submitting the resignation of the Council of Ministers. The resignation was later formally filed with Parliament’s Registry.
"Our desire is to be at the level that society expects. Power derives from the sovereign and the voice of the people," Rosen Zhelyazkov said.
Zhelyazkov was elected Prime Minister on January 16, 2025 with 125 votes in favour, 114 against and no abstentions.
Friday’s adopted work programme also includes the regular parliamentary Question Time, with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Grozdan Karadjov and Ministers Krasimir Valchev, Manol Genov, Petar Dilov, Zhecho Stankov, Temenuzhka Petkova and Georg Georgiev.
