site.btaNo Russian Pension Payments Received in Bulgaria This Year - National Social Security Institute

Pensions have not been paid to Russian citizens residing in Bulgaria since the beginning of 2025 due to the absence of payments from the Pension and Social Insurance Fund of the Russian Federation, Bulgaria's National Social Security Institute (NSSI) reported here on Tuesday.

The last date on which such payments were received from the Russian side was December 9, 2024, and the amounts were disbursed three days later, the NSSI added.

According to the applicable agreement for the implementation of the Treaty between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Russian Federation on Social Security, dated February 27, 2009, the pensions of persons residing in Bulgaria are paid by the Russian side through quarterly transfers to the NSSI, based on submitted payment ledgers.

After receiving the ledgers and the corresponding funds, the institute disburses the pensions to the individuals’ bank accounts. 

The NSSI added that it will fulfill its obligations under the agreement upon receiving payment ledgers listing eligible individuals and the amounts due.
