European Chief Prosecutor Laura Kovesi and Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev attended the opening of an office of the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) in Sofia on Thursday. Bulgaria's acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov did not attend due to what Georgiev described as urgent commitments.
In July, the Council of Ministers provided the building at 45 Al. Stamboliyski Boulevard in Sofia for the EPPO's needs in Bulgaria. Before that, the building housed the headquarters of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms party.
On Wednesday, Kovesi and Georgiev discussed cooperation between the Bulgarian judicial authorities and the EPPO. They also discussed legislative changes relating to the investigation of crimes affecting the financial interests of the European Union and expressed their mutual appreciation for the fruitful cooperation, the Justice Ministry reported.
