The government on Wednesday adopted an Annual Report on the State and Development of Agriculture for 2025, which contains a detailed analysis of the previous year as well as forecast data for the current year. In 2024, the gross value added (GVA) in the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries sector amounted to BGN 4.8 billion, marking an increase of 7.3% compared to the previous year in real terms.

According to preliminary data, in the first quarter of 2025, GVA in the agricultural sector increased by 0.3% year-on-year in real terms, while in the second quarter a decrease of 2.3% was reported.

In 2024, Bulgaria recorded a positive trade balance in agricultural trade of EUR 2.2 million. Under direct payments for the 2024 calendar year, over BGN 1.8 billion were disbursed from European and national sources. Financial support in the form of state aid amounted to BGN 976.6 million. During the year, BGN 651.6 million were disbursed under the Rural Development Programme 2014–2020, and BGN 36 million under the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Programme 2014–2020.

The report outlines the priorities and goals of agricultural policy, as well as the planned measures for their implementation in 2026.
