A new national initiative titled “Christmas Miracles of Bulgaria” has launched a 30-day calendar highlighting daily acts of kindness, civic engagement and community support in the lead-up to the holiday season. It suggests a trove of ways to give back to the community.

The organizers say the campaign aims not only to showcase positive examples but to encourage people across the country to take part in meaningful causes throughout the entire year. “Everyone says miracles happen at Christmas. We believe they happen when we create them together,” the team behind the initiative states.

The online calendar, available at chudesata.bg, features a new “window” opening each day to reveal a specific opportunity for participation. These include charitable events, volunteer activities, donation drives, environmental actions and personal stories shared by civic organizations from across Bulgaria. Visitors are invited to attend events, support causes, volunteer or spread the stories further.

Unlike traditional seasonal campaigns focused on a single holiday message, the initiative aims to inspire long-term engagement. Its creators say they hope participants will carry the idea of doing good into the next 365 days, not just around Christmas.

The project brings together dozens of civil society organizations working in fields such as social support, child welfare, environmental protection, culture and education. According to the organizers, these groups and the people behind them "perform miracles every day" by caring for others and contributing to a better quality of life in Bulgaria.

The calendar is the first of its kind in the country to unite diverse initiatives and stories of positive change in one place. The organizers note that the featured examples represent only a fraction of the good being done nationwide and express gratitude to all individuals and organizations who "tirelessly create small and large miracles because they care."

The November 20 "miracles" are two. One is about an initiative of the Come Along Foundation, which brings together people with disabilities and volunteers: "not simply to help, but to connect, to restore a sense of belonging, joy and shared life". Its activities range from mountain walks and group outings to film trips, but at the heart of its work is creating space for genuine human closeness. The other calls for support and volunteers to work with older people who live alone in eight villages in Northwestern Bulgaria. The initiative provides food packages, a festive holiday dinner, and funds for home-care assistants and cooked meals throughout 2026.

The miracles calendar project is a joint efforts of the Bulgarian Center for Not-for-Profit Law, The Convo, Sofia Platform, the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds, the Bulgarian Donors Forum, Amnesty International, Platform Agora, and the Trust for Social Achievement. The organizations are united by a shared mission: to make visible the civic groups that are changing the world around us — step by step, person by person.
