Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev held a protocol meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of France to Bulgaria, Marie Dumoulin, the ministry's press office reported on Friday.
During the discussion, both sides expressed satisfaction with the excellent state of relations between Bulgaria and France and voiced their readiness to further strengthen and deepen cooperation across a wide range of areas. They noted the progress made in coordinating the new Roadmap to the 2008 Agreement on Strategic Partnership between Bulgaria and France, expressing expectations that it will be signed in the near future.
Georgiev highlighted France's role as a strategic partner of Bulgaria within the EU, NATO and other international organizations.
The two diplomats discussed several current developments on the European and international agenda, noting the alignment of their positions on a number of issues, including the war in Ukraine and the key importance of the Black Sea region as part of overall European security.
In the context of the EU enlargement process, a priority for both Bulgaria and France, the sides reviewed the progress of individual candidate countries and reaffirmed their support for the European consensus reached in 2022 concerning the Republic of North Macedonia.
Minister Georgiev wished Ambassador Dumoulin a successful and productive diplomatic mission in Bulgaria.
