The annual inflation rate in Romania rose to 7.84% in July from 5.7% in June, the National Statistics Institute of Romania said Tuesday.

This was the highest level in 21 months, according to DPA.

Food prices rose 7.67%, services 7.33%, and non-food goods 8.18%, the figures showed.

Year-on-year, fresh fruit, cosmetic services and railway tickets posted the steepest increases, up 39.74%, 14.06% and 16.92%, respectively.

Month-on-month, inflation accelerated to 2.7% in July.

Experts said the sharpest jump in annual inflation is expected in the third quarter of 2025 following the end of the electricity price cap scheme and higher VAT and excise rates from August 1.
