Bulgaria expresses growing concern about North Macedonia's continued failure to fulfill its commitments to the European Union, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.

In a letter, Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev informed his European Union counterparts and European institutions of Skopje's latest attempts to compromise important elements of the European consensus.

The package agreement approved at European level in July 2022 remains the only possible way forward for this EU candidate country. Unfortunately, instead of constructive dialogue and good neighbourly relations, what is being observed is a policy of confrontation, provocation and reneging on commitments, including the deliberate challenging of key agreements before the Constitutional Court in Skopje, the statement reads.

It is not possible to change the agreed European consensus or any of its components. Bulgaria expects its neighbour to fulfil its commitments in good faith, as repeatedly insisted upon by the European Council itself.

Bulgaria remains committed to the position that the best solution for the future of the Western Balkans is for all countries to participate in this most successful project called the European Union. Bulgaria is ready to help Skopje on its European path in the reform process, if membership in a united Europe is the real choice of its government, the press release said.
