The Bulgarian Embassy in Romania will celebrate May 24, the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education, Culture, and Slav Letters, with a varied festive programme, the Embassy told the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

The celebrations will begin on May 24 with an event that will be held for the first time at the Dimitrie Gusti National Village Museum in Bucharest. The programme will feature open lessons in Bulgarian language and folk dancing, a demonstration of traditional Bulgarian costumes from both sides of the Danube, a photo exhibition by members of the Bulgarian community, and children’s workshops on painting and making Kuker masks.

Visitors will also have the chance to explore traditional Bulgarian choreography and learn pottery-making techniques.

"Through this event, we celebrate the contribution of Bulgarian culture to Romania’s ethnic mosaic and reaffirm the importance of preserving our shared language, traditions, and values in a spirit of respect and intercultural dialogue," the Museum said in a press release sent to BTA.

The celebration will continue on May 25 with the sixth meeting of Bulgarians in Romania at the Student Culture House in Bucharest. The event is organized by the Bulgarian Embassy and the Union of Banat Bulgarians in Romania.

May 24 also marks the Day of the Bulgarian Language in Romania. This year marks the 10th anniversary of its official recognition.
