The Bulgarian and Romanian authorities are starting an on-site review of all procedures related to the crossing of the Danube Bridge near Ruse. In the coming week, a joint visit to the facility will be organized by all involved institutions from both countries, which are responsible for the crossing and traffic control. This was agreed upon by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Dimitar Nedyalkov and his Romanian counterpart Constantin Bunduk during a video conference call, the press centre of the Ministry of Transport and Communications reported.

Traffic via the bridge is often congested, leading to long waits for passing from one country to the other and traffic jams in Ruse. During the meeting, the options for reducing the waiting time in the area of the bridge on both sides of the river were discussed. The aim is to take concrete measures for effective traffic management. The two parties are currently analyzing the possibility of online toll payments for passenger cars.

Representatives of the Customs Agency, the Border Police General Directorate, the Road Infrastructure Agency and the corresponding institutions from the Romanian side also took part in the meeting.

Deputy Minister Nedyalkov said that it is necessary to have clear deadlines for putting a Ruse - Giurgiu ferry into operation. He noted that  this is a measure that is guaranteed to ease traffic. Nedyalkov recalled that the Bulgarian side has fulfilled all commitments to launch the line.
