On April 28, 1963, an electric hoist factory was unveiled in Gabrovo (North Central Bulgaria). It was the first of its kind in the country and the biggest manufacturer of electric rope hoists in Central and Eastern Europe.

On March 15, 1967, the factory was named Podem [Rise]. It exported hoists to all members of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (Comecon).

In 1975, Podem became the biggest electric hoist manufacturer in the world, making 100,000 units a year.

After the full privatization of the State-owned factory, it became Podemcrane AD in 2002.

It is operational to this day, manufacturing various types of cranes and electric hoists.
