The formula for Bulgaria’s economic development lies in finding the answer to the question of how to produce expensive and unique products that others cannot produce. This, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth Tomislav Donchev, is the secret to economic success. He shared this view during his participation in a panel at the iN Sofia 2025 conference, held at the Hilton Hotel in Sofia. The event was organized by economic.bg.

To achieve this success, Donchev emphasized the central role of the education system, which largely determines the solution to this challenge because it is directly connected to the quality of human potential.

He also said that the business environment, business traditions, and the time required to achieve results are equally important.

Tomislav Donchev once again called for confidence, boldness, and public support for Bulgarian industry, giving as an example the company EnduroSat in the space techno;ogy sector, whose leadership shows no fear.

The Deputy Prime Minister also insisted on the need for a distinct identity for Bulgaria’s technological sector and industry.

Donchev shared the view that state funding neither can nor should replace private capital in business.

“If something can happen without the participation of the state, that would be best,” he added. “Of course, the state, through its policies, must allocate funding, but interventions should be very focused—only where the market cannot respond.”

The iN Sofia 2025 event brought together representatives of key European and Bulgarian institutions, business leaders, and politicians to shape a new framework for a competitive and decarbonized European industry with Bulgaria playing an active role.

European Commissioner for Startups, Research, and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva also attended the event.
