site.btaBulgaria among Leading European Countries for Sea Water Quality
According to a report by the European Environment Agency for 2024, Bulgaria is among the leading countries in the European Union in terms of sea water quality, Environment and Water Minister Manol Genov said on Friday in Sozopol. He was opening the Blue Future for the Black Sea forum, organized by the Environment and Water Ministry and Sozopol Municipality on the occasion of Black Sea Day.
Genov emphasized that efforts to protect the marine environment are yielding results and called for continued investments in sustainable development. He noted that tourism is a major driver of growth on the Black Sea coast and maintaining healthy ecosystems is key to attracting tourists, pointing out that the Environment and Water Ministry provides funding of BGN 615 mullion for circular economy measures and BGN 1.4 billion for wastewater treatment and water supply infrastructure. He added that the Ministry allocates another BGN 780 million for clean air and BGN 450 million for adaptation to climate change and disaster prevention on the Black Sea.
The Minister pointed out that the construction of treatment plants, investments in infrastructure and the upgrading of the scientific base are helping to control the quality of seawater. He called on institutions, businesses and citizens to continue to invest resources, expertise and knowledge for a bluer future for the Black Sea.
