Bulgarian Deputy Defence Minister Radostin Iliev said on Thursday that Bulgaria provides support to Ukraine at different levels, including by organizing a summer camp for Ukrainian war-traumatized children. The initiative gave the children a chance to spend time on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, play in a safe environment, and enjoy Bulgarian hospitality, Iliev added, quoted by his Ministry in a press release.
The Ukrainian children were accommodated at the Sarafovo - MoD Hotel, which has managed by the Defence Ministry's Executive Agency for Military Clubs and Military Recreation.
Iliev gave the children small souvenirs from Bulgaria to use during their school activities. "Education is important. You are the future of your country, and I wish you to grow up healthy and happy," the Deputy Minister said.
Ukraine's Ambassador to Bulgaria Olesya Ilashchuk also attended the meeting.
The holiday was organized under a Council of Ministers decision for 65 children aged 5 to 16 who have suffered trauma from the war. Among them were children of military personnel, including 43 of Bulgarian origin. The Ministry described the effort as "a modest gesture of solidarity and support for the youngest victims of the war".
