Silvia Kadreva, Deputy Chair of the Bulgarian National Audit Office, was elected Chair of the nomination commission for selecting members of the Anti-Corruption Commission, the nomination commission’s first sitting confirmed here on Friday.

Members of the committee include Justice Ministry Secretary General Nevena Milova, Supreme Bar Council lawyer Nina Sedefova, Supreme Court of Cassation member Kalin Kalpakchiev, Ombudsman’s Chief Secretary Aysun Avdzhiev and National Audit Office Vice President Silvia Kadreva.

Initially, none of the five members received enough votes to be elected chair. Avdzhiev withdrew his candidacy, stating that the chair should have experience in the field or be a legal professional. The commission members later reached consensus around Kadreva, and unanimously elected lawyer Sedefova as deputy chair.

On Thursday, the parliamentary committee on anti-corruption voted by 10 to five to establish a nomination commission tasked with selecting the leadership of the Anti-Corruption Commission.

There are four candidates for membership of the Commission: lawyer Adelina Natina-Zikolova, legal expert Mariya Daskalova, legal expert Petar Koev, and Stoyan Petkov.
