site.btaTurkish Red Crescent Equips Social Kitchen of Bulgarian Red Cross in Plovdiv

The Turkish Red Crescent (TRC) has made a donation to equip the kitchen of the Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC) Regional Council in Plovdiv, TRC President Dr Fatma Yilmaz said on Tuesday. The donation aims to provide healthy hot meals to people in need, Yilmaz said during her visit to Plovdiv, where she met with the leadership of the local volunteer organization.

Tanya Georgieva, Director of the Secretariat of the BRC Regional Council in Plovdiv said: “The kitchen is an extremely important social service for people in need. We thank the Turkish Red Crescent for its support in equipping it.” She also emphasized the importance of efforts to promote blood donation and called on people to donate blood not only in cases of disaster.

The main emphasis of the meeting was strengthening the cooperation between the two humanitarian structures. Both traditional areas of cooperation such as aid during Ramadan and Eid al-Adha were discussed, as well as new opportunities for joint work in areas such as blood donation, social services and disaster response.

Yılmaz said that the TRC and the BRC work in neighbouring countries and deal with similar emergencies, which is why their joint work is essential. She expressed her readiness to organize emergency response trainings in which the TRC would work closely with Bulgarian institutions.
