site.btaHealthcare Experts from Trakia University Examine 400 Patients in Albania

Some 400 people were examined during the free medical check-ups in the village of Golemo Ostreni in the Golloborde Region in Albania from June 26 to 28. More than 150 of them were seen by healthcare experts in the last day of the initiative led by the Medical College at Trakia University in Stara Zagora in cooperation with the Bulgarian Embassy in Tirana and the health centre in Golemo Ostreni.
The multidisciplinary examinations had medical experts conduct blood sugar, cholesterol and uric acid tests, eye screening, measuring bone density and examining patients' vertebrae.
The region of Golloborde in Albania is home to a large Bulgarian minority. This is the second similar initiative after healthcare experts conducted medical examinations in the Albanian city of Kukes in 2024.
Despite the queues on the last day people were happy and grateful. Ophthalmologist Dr Georgi Dachev told BTA about an elderly man with crutches who came to be examined. During the examination, the patient said to Dachev: "Do you know what it's like to have Mother Bulgaria by your side?"
