The Embassy of Japan in Bulgaria donated close to USD 250,000 to the Bulgarian Red Cross in support of newly arrived refugees from Ukraine here on Monday.
The donation amounts to USD 247,791 and will fund the humanitarian activities of the Bulgarian Red Cross in support of newly arrived Ukrainian refugees. With the provided funds the Bulgarian Red Cross has secured 3,000 food packs and 1,000 family hygiene kits, which will be distributed among more than 4,000 Ukrainian citizens who arrived in Bulgaria this year. The refugees will additionally be supported by Ukrainian citizens who have been residing in this country for more than two years - with assistance in translating and preparing documents, and access to medical care.
“We are here to thank the people of Japan and the Japanese government,” Hristo Grigorov, Bulgarian Red Cross Chair, said. “From the first moment of this senseless war, we helped hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians and the hand we extended to them was supportive, an attempt to restore their faith in the future,” he added. “The Ukrainian people are very close to the Bulgarian people, the Bulgarian Red Cross has been building bridges of kindness between people for years and helping,” Grigorov said. He added that the Bulgarian Red Cross will continue to help women, children, and all those in need. “What is happening is unacceptable in the 21st century, but our task is to help,” he added.
