BTA is among the participants in the Spring Conference of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) in Tirana, which started on Thursday and is hosted for the first time by the Albanian News Agency (ATA).
The event, which runs from May 14 to 16, includes leaders and representatives from 32 news agencies from different European countries. BTA is represented by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev.
In an opening address, ATA Director General Valbona Zhupa described the news agency representatives gathered in Tirana as the heart of reliable information on the continent and beyond.
We live in a time when lies spread faster than truth and are often believed without source verification, Zhupa said.
EANA was founded on August 21, 1956, and in 1970, agencies from beyond the Iron Curtain were invited to join, ATA reminded.
In addition to being part of EANA, BTA is also a member of MINDS International, a Vienna-based global network of leading news agencies collaborating in new media business. In September 2022, BTA became the seat of the Association of Balkan News Agencies – Southeast Europe, comprising 12 agencies. It also maintains the association's renewed website, which publishes daily news from each Balkan member agency in English.
