The first 100 days of the Zhelyazkov cabinet "took the country four years back to the worst practices in GERB governance", Kiril Petkov, co-leader of the opposition Continue the Change said here Wednesday. He was speaking at a news conference held to announce their assessment of the government's performance in its first 100 days.

"The government can be summarized as [Delyan] Peevski [leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms – New Beginning] and Boyko Borissov [leader of GERB] and their two crutches - There Is Such a People" (TISP) and Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) - United Left, who violated their own declarations of a "sanitary cordon" [around Delyan Peevski].

In October 2024, following the early parliamentary elections, Petkov called for a "cordon sanitaire" around Delyan Peevski's party, because, he claimed, it was obvious that "it is a party that is trying to steal democracy, to steal the free vote of the people, to steal Bulgaria’s future.” He called on other parties to completely isolate New Beginning politically.

“We have also witnessed the development of criminal plots that we had forgotten in the past four years,” Petkov added.

Kiril Petkov pointed out that Vladimir Malinov was appointed to Bulgartransgaz illegally, and the matter had been referred to the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) with documents that incriminate Malinov for forging contracts.

The CC-DB coalition, in January, alerted the EPPO about the reinstatement of Vladimir Malinov as Executive Director of Bulgartransgaz, the state-owned gas transmission company. The alert also references an ongoing EPPO investigation into a project for expansion of the underground gas storage facility in Chiren (Northwestern Bulgaria).

Petkov recalled that on February 15, the mother of European Prosecutor Teodora Georgieva died in a fire, “in circumstances that have not been completely clarified", to use his words. Petkov also recalled the leak to the news media  videos of meetings between Petyo “the Euro” Petrov and Teodora Georgieva. “A scenario is unfolding before our eyes, including corruption, threats to the European Prosecutor,” he said. “In reality, in a hundred days, we have gone back to the criminal plots of four years ago,” Petkov added.

The other Co-chair of the party, Assen Vassilev, said that “in the first one hundred days, the ruling majority and the government have raised the price of electricity for households, the price of vignettes, stopped the income growth policy, with the exception of law enforcement agencies, frozen funds for young families, condemned small businesses by reducing the VAT threshold for registering companies and have begun preparations to attack all other businesses by raising social security contributions starting next year.”
