site.btaUPDATED Vazrazhdane Leader: MECh Will Move for No-confidence Vote against Cabinet over Corruption
Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov Thursday said the group of Morality, Unity, Honour (MECh) would submit a motion of no confidence in the Cabinet over corruption. Vazrazhdane is behind the motion but the party "graciously" stepped back and allowed MECh to submit it as the group backed Vazrazhdane's no-confidence motion on April 3.
The motion is to be submitted on Thursday once it is signed by the Velichie group, said Kostadinov.
On Wednesday, MECh leader Radostin Vasilev said his group would submit a no-confidence motion over corruption. "We have identified corruption elements in five segments of governance connected with this Cabinet," he said.
In early April, Vazrazhdane started consultations on a new vote of no confidence with opposition groups in Parliament. Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) did not respond to the invitation, meaning that they are part of the government and are very likely to support it once again, Kostadinov commented.
"MECh had some concerns about the rationale behind the vote, but we said it is not open to debate and the focus will be on corruption and the government's failed anti-corruption policy. We had already prepared the reasoning and allowed MECh to submit the motion while adding their own arguments. Velichie said they would support any vote against the government, and asked if we would support a motion submitted by them. We hold the same principled position - we will support any vote of no confidence against the government," said Kostadinov.
Bulgaria's governance has become "a waste of time", Kostadinov said. "Bulgaria keeps refusing to take a stance in the trade war. We will continue to submit no-confidence motions, even if we have to do it every two weeks. This government will fall. Whether it falls today, next week, or next month - it is doomed because it has no foreign policy sponsors. The powers that be have lost Washington's support."
Vazrazhdane is the only political force capable of establishing ties with both West and East, Kostadinov said. The party expects its delegations to support West European countries and the US by the end of April, as well as Russia and China.
The Cabinet of Rosen Zhelyazkov survived a no-confidence vote over its foreign policy on April 3. The motion was submitted by Vazrazhdane with support from the MPs of Velichie and MECh. The vote was 54-150, with no abstentions. CC-DB did not vote.
