One year of negotiations is better than one day of war, Lyubomir Kyuchukov, Director of the Institute of Economics and International Relations, said here Monday. He was among the speakers at a conference titled "Wars and Peace: will the time of diplomacy come?". The event was organized by the Institute of Economics and International Relations and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.

He said that nobody can win a war that cannot be lost - which is the case for the Ukraine war because both Ukraine and Russia have significant military and technological resources.

Kyuchukov also said: "Twenty months after the start of the war in Ukraine and 75 years after the start of the conflict in the Middle East, we are no closer to peace. That means we have either not tried or we have failed. Either way, we need to rethink our approach."

He was adamant that Bulgaria "is not and cannot be neutral" because there was a military intervention, because Bulgaria is part of NATO and the EU in the geopolitical conflict. "We are not part of the war, but we are part of the conflict. All this concerns national security and interests," Kyuchukov said.
