Bulgarian society continues to be a society that is largely unaffected by the severe manifestations of discrimination and anti-Semitism that many other societies suffer from, said Deputy Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova, during the National Expert Forum on Combating Anti-Semitism and Preservation of Jewish Heritage, which is being held on Wednesday in Sofia. The event was organized by the Diplomatic Institute to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Deputy Minister Petrova recalled that this year this country celebrating 80 years since the rescue of Bulgarian Jews and stressed that there is a very high level of integration of Bulgarian Jews in all areas of public life. She added that this is important and something not many other countries can boast of.

“Unfortunately, we cannot say that anti-Semitism does not exist, even here. We are witnessing new forms of its manifestation, especially in the context of information technologies,” she pointed out. The implementation of the National Action Plan for Combating Anti-Semitism is extremely important, noted Petrova.

A few days ago, representatives of the institutions discussed the project of a joint plan, together with Norway, which should be completed in the coming months, Petrova pointed out and added that this is a valuable addition to all national efforts in the fight against anti-Semitism.

She pointed out that this country has received praise from many countries for the termination of the so-called Lukov march, a “manifestation with foreign participation that did not fit into the traditions of our society and the current international image of our country”, Petrova pointed out.
