Bulgaria will host the 25th Anniversary Congress of the Balkan Military Medical Committee (BMMC). The Forum will be held from May 28-31, 2023, after a four-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the press centre of the Military Medical Academy (MMA) said Friday. 

The congress's main themes are related to scientific advances in trauma management, military medicine, disaster medicine, emergency medicine, surgery, orthopedics, infectious diseases, internal medicine, psychiatry, psychology and health care, basic science, clinical research, education, MMA said. Among the highlights of the discussions will be the effective interaction between military and civilian healthcare in crisis situations.

More than 200 delegates from the Committee's six member states will participate in the forum. These are Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Serbia and Turkiye.

The BBMC is the first bridge for Bulgarian military physicians to the Euro-Atlantic structures, established 28 years ago on the initiative of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Turkiye. Later Albania and Serbia joined, the MMA quoted Dimo Dimov, deputy head of the MMA and current president of the BBMC. 

MMA Chief Ventsislav Mutafchiiski will be honorary president of the congress.
