site.btaItaly's Ambassador Zarra Receives Honorary Doctorate from Plovdiv Food Technologies University

The Plovdiv University of Food Technologies (UFT) on Tuesday conferred an honorary doctorate on Italy's Ambassador to Bulgaria Giuseppina Zarra, the Italian Embassy in Sofia said. The insignia of the degree were presented by the UFT Rector, Prof. Dr Plamen Mollov.

The diplomat was honoured for her services to the advancement of relations between Italian academics and business persons and the University.

The higher school has attended a number of professional forums and seminars organized by the Italian Embassy in Sofia and involving executives of leading food and wine industry companies.

Ambassador Zarra has been actively contributing to popularizing the UFT's educational and research initiatives, enabling the University to achieve international renown as a centre of education in food sciences. 

In her acceptance speech, the Italian diplomat stressed the need to protect the culture of eating as a source of welfare and a moment of sharing and exchange, the need to safeguard foods that reflect the wealth and diversity of territories and traditions, and the need to promote the right culture of eating. This is precisely why Italy has initiated NutrInform Battery, a detailed food labelling system based on comprehensive and accurate information. 

Attending the ceremony were Italy's Honorary Consul in Plovdiv Giuseppe De Francesco, Confindustria Bulgaria President Roberto Santorelli, other foreign ambassadors, former and present UFT faculty members and students.
