Gagauzia Hosts Forum on Bulgarian Alphabet, Culture

With May 24, the Day of the Brothers St Cyril and St Methodius, the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture, and Slavonic Literary Culture, approaching, the village of Chirsova in Gagauzia, Moldova, hosted an international scientific-practical conference on "The functioning of Slavic languages and literatures in the context of the linguistic situation in the Republic of Moldova". The participants of the event reported on the teaching of Bulgarian language and literature in Gagauzia, on the spring cycle of Bulgarian holidays, traditions and customs in the city of Taraclia, they discussed the prose of Bulgarian author Elin Pelin as well as the use of the Bulgarian language in Wallachia and Moldova until mid-16th century, 

The guests included the Bulgarian Consul in Taraclia Lyubomir Dimov, the heads of the regional education departments of Comrat, Taraclia and Cahul, Bulgarian language expert Maria Delibaltova of the Ministry of Education and Science.

Tatiana Racovcena, who is the chair of a Bulgarian organization in Gagauzia, said that this was the 16th year that the forum was organized by the Comrat State University's Department of Romanian and Slavonic Philology as well as her organization. Guests of the forum can attend a concert entitled "Let's preserve the Bulgarian spirit", which this year featured folk groups from 16 schools.
