site.btaPTI CEO Vijay Joshi: India Can Take Inspiration From How BTA Popularizes Bulgarian Culture
India can take inspiration from how the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) partners with local communities to preserve culture, promote it, and make it more widely known among Bulgarians, said Vijay Joshi, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of India’s national news agency Press Trust of India (PTI), who was a guest at the Slaveykov House Museum in Tryavna during the launch of BTA’s initiative “Pencho Slaveykov Today,” dedicated to the 160th birth anniversary of the Tryavna-born poet and a key figure of Bulgarian modernism. He expressed hope that, thanks to the partnership between the national news agencies of the two countries, Slaveykov will also become known in India.
“I think events like this are a wonderful way to preserve a country’s culture,” Joshi said, referring to the discussion held at the Slaveykov House Museum, moderated by poet, literary scholar, and critic Yordan Eftimov, which marked the beginning of BTA’s initiative.
This is Vijay Joshi’s second visit to Bulgaria. He noted that this time he came directly to Tryavna and described it as a charming old town. “I feel very honored to be part of the anniversary of one of the greatest Bulgarian poets, and it was truly wonderful to hear the story of Slaveykov and how he shaped Bulgarian literature,” Joshi said.
After the meeting at the museum, Vijay Joshi, together with BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and Tryavna Mayor Dencho Minev, visited the Daskalov House and the Museum of Asian and African Art.
India’s national news agency Press Trust of India and the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) have a partnership agreement that includes the exchange of news, and they also cooperate within MINDS International, an association of 26 leading news agencies from around the world, including Associated Press, Reuters, Agence France-Presse, and Kyodo, focused on collaboration in the field of information services.
From April 22 to 24, Kiril Valchev and Vijay Joshi took part in the MINDS conference in Vienna, after which Vijay Joshi visited Bulgaria. On his way to Sofia, he also visited BTA’s national press clubs in Belgrade and Skopje.
