Bulgaria to Open Its Stand at London Book Fair on Monday with Special BTA Editions, Books on Bulgarian Antarctic Expeditions

The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) will present its special editions dedicated to the Bulgarian Antarctic expeditions, as well as all of its English-language publications, at the London Book Fair. 

With presentations of books about Bulgarian Antarctic explorers and about the head of the Bulgarian Antarctic expeditions, Prof. Christo Pimpirev, Bulgaria will open its stand at the London Book Fair for the third consecutive year, Bulgarian Book Association Board Deputy Chair Gergana Dimitrova told BTA.

On Monday at 7:00 PM local time, Sofia Gallery at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute at the Bulgarian Embassy in London will host the presentation of BTA’s publications, the book Antarctica – History, Nature, Bulgarian Polar Explorers by Christo Pimpirev and Iglica Trifonova, and Trifonova’s book Christo Pimpirev: Antarctic Hitchhiker. BTA Director General Kiril Valchev will take part in the discussion during the book presentation. Kaval performer and composer Theodosii Spassov will also participate in the event. 

Two issues of BTA’s LIK magazine dedicated to Bulgarian Antarctic science will also be presented during the evening. Valchev will present at the London Book Fair all English-language editions of BTA’s LIK magazine: Bulgaria in UNESCO, Christo and Jeanne-Claude at 90 in Eternity, Bulgaria at the World Expos, LIK at 60 Years, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences at 155, Bulgarian Science in Antarctica, Bulgarian Footprint in Space, To Antarctica and Back under a Bulgarian Flag, The Voice of Bulgarians in Ukraine, as well as the special edition New BG WINE Leads the Way and the book about the history and archives of the national agency, 125 Years Bulgarian News Agency. The Real News: Stories On File 1989–2023.

On March 10 at 11:00 a.m., a discussion titled Satire in Post-1989 Europe will be held with Bulgarian publisher and editor Svetlozar Zhelev and British journalist Rosie Goldsmith, Director of the European Literature Network, along with a presentation of Christo Pimpirev and Iglica Trifonova by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, with the participation of Theodosii Spassov.

Also on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., Hatchards Bookshop will host a discussion between Goldsmith, Istros Books Director Susan Curtis, and Bulgarian publisher and editor Svetlozar Zhelev, also titled Satire in Post-1989 Europe.

On March 11 at 7:00 p.m., Sofia Gallery will host the presentation of the book A Short Anthology of Contemporary Bulgarian Authors in the United Kingdom, compiled and edited by Georgi Nikolov.
