Vladimir Zografski reached the podium in a FIS Ski Jumping World Cup event for the first time in his career after Slovenia’s Domen Prevc, who initially delivered the strongest jump in the competition in Lahti, was disqualified because his skis were 1 cm longer than the permitted limit.
Prevc had originally won the event with a 129-metre jump worth 138.8 points. The result would also have secured him the overall World Cup title ahead of schedule and marked a record seventh consecutive victory. However, a post-competition equipment check revealed that his skis exceeded the allowed size, leading to his disqualification.
As a result, Germany’s Philipp Raimund was declared the winner. The Olympic champion on the normal hill recorded a 122.5-metre jump, earning 129.3 points.
Second place went to Austria’s Daniel Tschofenig with 124.5 metres and 128.6 points. Zografski also jumped 124.5 metres, but slightly lower style scores left him with 127.2 points, placing him third.
Until now, the Bulgarian’s best result had also come in Finland, where he finished fourth in Ruka on November 29 at the start of the season. This time, however, Zografski managed to step onto the podium, something he had never achieved before in a men’s World Cup event.
The competition in Lahti was held without a qualification round and consisted of a single jump, with 67 athletes taking part. Another individual event is scheduled in the Finnish city on Saturday, followed by a team competition on Sunday.
