The number of transactions on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange (BSE) surged by 182.95% year on year to a total of 16,442 deals in the first month following Bulgaria’s accession to the euro area, BSE said on its website. Compared with the previous month, the number of transactions in January 2026 increased by 131.06%.

The total turnover on the BSE reached EUR 45.4 million in the first month of the year, marking a 159.06% rise on an annual basis. On a monthly basis, however, turnover in January declined by 31.07% compared with December 2025.

The three most liquid issues in January were Sopharma AD with 1,865 transactions, Sirma Group Holding AD with 1,302 transactions, and Sopharma Trading AD with 1,178 transactions.

The benchmark SOFIX index rose by 18.89% in the first month of 2026 to 1,374.91 points at the end of the period. The BGBX40 and BGTR30 indices gained 13.91% and 13.07%, respectively, reaching 232.17 points and 1,125.01 points. The BGREIT index advanced by 0.84% in January, while beamX added 13.13% over the period.

In January, 14 of the 15 components of the SOFIX index posted gains. The top performers were Central Cooperative Bank AD, which surged by 89.47%, Chimimport AD, up 48.63%, and Bulgarian Stock Exchange AD, which rose by 46.24%.
