site.btaWholesale Prices of Most Vegetable Surge as Fruit Prices Drop over Past Week
Most vegetables at Bulgarian wholesale markets have seen significant price increases this week, while fruit prices are falling, according to the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets.
The market index for wholesale food prices in this country increased by 0.45% to 2.459 points over the past week. Last week, it stood at 2.448 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.
In the vegetables category, peppers saw the biggest increase, with green peppers rising by 46.07% to EUR 1.82 per kilogram, and red peppers increasing by 33.33% to EUR 2.04/kg. Zucchini also saw a notable rise of 19.97% to EUR 1.85/kg. Other vegetables with higher prices include potatoes, up by 5.69% to EUR 0.52/kg, mature onions, up by 4.17% to EUR 0.50/kg, cucumbers, up by 2.1% to EUR 2.24/kg, and tomatoes, up by 1.5% to EUR 1.90/kg.
Only cabbage and carrots became cheaper this week, depreciating by 3.76% to EUR 0.41/kg and by 1.38% to EUR 0.57/kg, respectively.
In the fruit category, prices increased only for tangerines, up by 0.93% to EUR 1.30/kg. Apples saw the largest drop, down 9.69% to EUR 1.10/kg, followed by oranges, which fell 7.56% to EUR 1.15/kg. Bananas depreciated by 0.82% to EUR 1.45/kg and lemons went down by 0.12% to EUR 1.64/kg.
The price of white brined cheese from cow's milk rose by 2.33% to EUR 6.06/kg, and that of Vitosha-type yellow kashkaval cheese increased by 1.7% to EUR 9.55/kg. Yogurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) remained at EUR 0.70 per 400 grams, while milk rose 0.98% to EUR 1.24 per litre. Butter from cow's milk increased by 9.87% to EUR 1.67 per pack of 125 grams.
Frozen poultry rose by 1.59% to EUR 3.57/kg, while eggs (size M) remained at EUR 0.22 per piece wholesale.
Rice fell 1.31% to EUR 1.66/kg, and sunflower oil dropped 1.52% to EUR 1.68/l. Flour (type 500) increased 5.67% to EUR 0.82/kg, and sugar rose 2.22% to EUR 0.92/kg. Other price increases were seen for mature beans, up 4.03% to EUR 2.22/kg, and lentils, up 1.15% to EUR 2.12/kg.
